Im November 2013 wurde in Französisch-Guayana die Raumsonde Gaia gestartet. Ziel der Mission war die Vermessung von Sternen, Galaxien und anderen Objekten im Weltall. Mit Hilfe von Gaia ist ein umfangreicher Sternenkatalog entstanden.

Dieser Sternenkatalog steht nicht nur der Wissenschaft, sondern auch der Öffentlichkeit zur Verfügung. Die Archive der Gaia-Mission können über die Webseite der ESA bezogen werden. Lizenziert sind die Daten unter der Gaia Data License:
